Founded in the 1850s, Jinsui is a historic pottery maker from Tokoname, Japan’s leading region for teapot production and one of the country’s six oldest kilns.
Now led by fourth-generation potter Yusuke Watanabe, a designer by trade before returning to the family business, Yusuke is breathing new life into an industry restricted by tradition and rigid ways.
Known especially for its teapots and tea vessels, Jinsui works with locally sourced Tokoname clay, valued for its durability, fine texture, and iron-rich composition. Each piece is shaped with close attention to balance, pour, and the feeling of the vessel in hand, designed not only to serve tea well, but to deepen the experience of brewing and drinking it.
