Okamoto Shuichi is a contemporary potter working within the Karatsu tradition. Born into a family of potters and trained under his father, Okamoto Sakurei, he brings together inherited craft and a refined, modern sensibility shaped by his earlier background in graphic design and fashion.
Okamoto is known for overseeing every stage of production himself—from digging and preparing clay to mixing glazes, forming, and firing. His work reflects the natural character of Karatsu ware, often featuring expressive surfaces, subtle textures, and understated decoration. Balancing tradition with contemporary aesthetics, his pieces are designed for everyday use while offering a quiet, distinctive beauty.
